SPILL? START HERE.
Simple first steps for carpet, rug and sofa marks.
For advice about your stain, call JR.
A LITTLE CARE NOW CAN HELP
BLOT. DON’T SCRUB.
For a fresh liquid spill, gently blot with a dry white absorbent cloth. Avoid soaking the area, adding household chemicals or trying several stain removers.
Delicate fabric, an unknown spill or a mark that won’t shift? Pause and call JR. These tips are first precautions, not a full treatment; removal depends on the material and condition.
FIND YOUR SPILL
Choose a topic for a short first step. Sidekick uses the same tips.
Tea & coffee
Gently blot a fresh spill with a dry, white absorbent cloth. Avoid rubbing or soaking the area, and call JR before trying a stain remover.
Wine & coloured drinks
Blot up liquid with a dry white cloth. Leave household remedies and extra liquids out of it; let JR know what was spilled and how long it has been there.
Pet accidents & urine
Lift any loose solids carefully, then blot moisture with disposable white towels. Keep pets away from the patch and call JR; a surface mark and an odour may need different treatment.
Mud & muddy paws
Avoid rubbing wet mud further into the fibres. Keep traffic off the patch and ask JR what to do next, especially on pale carpets or delicate upholstery.
Food, chocolate & sauces
Carefully lift loose food without spreading it, then gently blot any liquid. Avoid scrubbing or adding kitchen cleaners; tell JR what the food was.
Grease & oil
Lift loose material carefully and blot excess with a dry white cloth. Avoid solvents or washing-up liquid on the carpet or sofa; call JR for advice on the material.
Candle wax
Leave the iron and hairdryer off the mark. Avoid pulling or scraping at the fibres; send JR a photo on WhatsApp so he can assess it.
Ink, paint & nail varnish
Avoid rubbing, thinning the spill or using nail-varnish remover. Keep the affected area clear and call JR with the type of product and whether it is wet or dry.
Blood spots
Avoid direct contact; use gloves and disposable towels if blotting a small spot. Do not use heat or household chemicals. Contact JR to discuss whether the affected material can be cleaned.
Bleach & colour loss
Stop applying products and keep people and pets away from any wet chemical. A pale patch may be colour loss rather than a removable stain; ask JR to assess it without expecting a guaranteed fix.
Rust marks
Avoid DIY acids, bleach or rubbing the mark. Tell JR what was sitting on the area and send a photo so he can advise on the next step.
Old stains & returning marks
Avoid repeated soaking or trying several products on the same patch. Tell JR how old the mark is and what has already been used; some marks need inspection before treatment.
Wool, rugs & delicate fabrics
Pause before adding water or a cleaner to an unfamiliar fabric. Avoid rubbing and call JR with the care-label details; fibres, dyes and construction affect the right approach.
Leather marks
Avoid household wipes, solvents and scrubbing. Leather finishes vary, so send JR a photo and any care-label details before trying a treatment.
Lingering smells
Tell JR where the smell is strongest and whether a spill or pet accident happened there. Avoid covering it with more products; the source needs to be understood before choosing a treatment.
LET JR TAKE A LOOK.
A quick conversation helps JR understand the mark and explain the next step.
